Punch needle Pillow cover - HOURGLASS MULTI

Punch needle pillows: These are perennially among the best-perfoming products in our catalog. We discovered punch needle embroidery when performing a diagnostic visit to villages in the remote San Marcos region between the Tacaná and Tajumulco volcanoes. Unlike most Guatemalan indigenous groups, the women there had no  particular expertise in any craft. However, we discovered children in one village learning in grade school how to embroider pillow covers in tweetie bird and mickey mouse designs, and we decided to teach their mothers to use the technique to produce a more marketable category of products.  We have been able to use this technique to produce income streams for women throughout that region and in a region near Guatemala City that similarly has no crafts tradition.  The base fabric is upcycled cotton canvas from scraps generated by the enormous jean industry here.  

The pillow covers ship without inserts.
