This multicolor pinstripe fabric is a newly handwoven facsimile of the skirts famously worn by indigenous Mayan women of Aguacatán, Huehuetenango. For too long companies have purchased these skirt fabrics (and every other vintage textile available in Guatemala) to "upcycle" into apparel and personal accessories.
They are undeniably handsome, but since they have been worn they can be purchased much more cheaply than their replacement cost and therefore do not incentivize young weavers to keep weaving.
This crossbody is made with one face in the Aguacatán fabric and the opposite face in a handwoven nubby caramel canvas. It has a removable leather shoulder strap and a wristlet in the same leather allowing it to be carried as a clutch. It has decorative contrast lacing on the side seams, a zipper close, and is fully lined with an inside patch pocket.
- Crossbody bag made of 100% cotton fabric and leather straps
